Enjoy a bite of something sweet with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra as we screen the Academy Award-nominated film "Chocolat" as part of the 8th Summermusik festival. Directed by Lasse Hallström, this film details the sweet – and bitter – story of a chocolatier and her six-year-old daughter as they settle in a small French town and attempt to open a chocolate shop.
Female composer Rachel Portman’s incredible soundtrack was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Oscar in this 2000 film. Before the show, hear commentary about the film and about Rachel’s music from CCO music director Eckart Preu.
More About the Film: When single mother Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche) and her six-year-old daughter, Anouk (Victoire Thivisol) move to rural France and open a chocolate shop, with Sunday hours, across the street from the local church, they are met with some skepticism. But as soon as they coax the townspeople into enjoying their delicious products, they are warmly welcomed.
Nominated for 5 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Original Score! The Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus: "Chocolat is a charmingly light-hearted fable with a lovely performance by Binoche."
