Wild Style (1983)

Outer Cinema and Conveyor Belt Books are proud to bring the 1983 hip-hop classic WILD STYLE to the Esquire Theatre on Saturday, September 6th, in it's newest 4k restoration, featuring guests Charlie Ahearn (writer/director of WILD STYLE) and Grand Wizzard Theodore (the hip-hop legend and inventor of the scratching technique)!! Released theatrically in 1983 by First Run Features, it is regarded as the first hip hop motion picture. The film featured seminal figures within the given period, such as Fab Five Freddy, Lee Quinones, Lady Pink, the Rock Steady Crew, The Cold Crush Brothers, Queen Lisa Lee of Zulu Nation, and Grandmaster Flash. The protagonist "Zoro" is played by New York graffiti artist "Lee" George Quinones. After the film, artist Michael Coppage and Outer Cinema programmer Justin Wiese will lead a discussion alongside Charlie Ahearn and Grand Wizzard Theodore discussing the filming WILD STYLE and it's immeasurable impact on not only hip-hop history, but culture as a whole.DramaPT1H22MR2025-09-06
