Saving Face (2004)

LEONTINE CINEMA hosts the charming, intelligent, and heartfelt rom-com from director Alice Wu: SAVING FACE (2005) at the ESQUIRE on Wednesday, February 4th. About the film: Wil is a lesbian, but she does not dare tell her widowed mother, Hwei-lan, or her very traditional grandparents. She's shocked, however, to find out she's not the only one in her family with romantic secrets when she learns that her 48-year-old mother is pregnant. Unwilling to reveal who the father is, Hwei-lan is kicked out of her parents' home and must move in with Wil, which puts a strain on Wil's budding relationship with openly gay Vivian. Join Leontine Cinema at the Esquire on the 3rd Wednesday of every month with a look at some of the best women-directed cult films of the past, hosted by Garin Pirnia, a Covington-based freelance writer and filmmaker. She has written about arts and culture for Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, CityBeat, Esquire, Cincinnati Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, Eater, and many more publications. She is author of The Beer Cheese Book, Rebels and Underdogs: The Story of Ohio Rock and Roll, and an upcoming book on women film directors. She also writes weird horror comedy screenplays, and is a judge for the Cindependent Film Fest.ComedyPT1H37MR2026-02-04
