Join us for the next installment of our 1939 series celebrating Hollywood's Golden Year!

The first of more than a dozen collaborations between director John Ford and actor John Wayne that re-defined Westerns. With some of the most famous films in that genre, 1939's STAGECOACH brought realism and respectability back to "the cowboy movie" that had been lost since its prominence in the early days of cinema.

While Ford directed nearly 150 films between 1917 and 1970, STAGECOACH was his first-time shooting in his beloved Monument Valley that became iconic as the prototype for Western movie landscapes.

Nominated for seven Oscars and ranked by AFI as the #63 film of all time, STAGECOACH features archetypical characters on a journey through Apache territory with Geronimo on the rampage, and marked Wayne's breakthrough role as "The Ringo Kid."
