Paname: le fantôme du Grand Français (The Ghost of The Great Frenchman)
This film is in French and Spanish with English Subtitles.
French engineer Ferdinand de Lesseps hoped to follow his extraordinary success leading the construction of the Suez Canal, completed in 1869, by connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans across the Isthmus of Panama. But ten years after it was launched, the Panama Canal project collapsed in 1888, plagued by problems with engineering, financing and deadly tropical diseases. Panamanian filmmaker Daniel Zapateiro won an Augusto Award at the 2018 Zaragoza Film Festival for this story about one of the greatest corruption scandals in history and how Ferdinand de Lesseps’ vision eventually was achieved.
