The Exorcist (R)

This Halloween Night, join us for a film on many critics list of "the scariest movie ever," 1973's THE EXORCIST

William Friedkin's 1973 film adaptation of William Peter Blatty's novel THE EXORCIST is a harrowing tale about the apparent demonic possession of a twelve-year-old girl and the efforts by two priests to save her. The shocking horror epic was the first in the genre to be nominated for the "Best Picture" Academy Award, and won the Oscars for "Adapted Screenplay" and "Sound Design" amidst its 10 total nominations. The Exorcist was named the best horror film of all time in a Rolling Stone readers' poll.

THE EXORCIST will feature a short introduction by UC film professor Joe Horine, with a Q&A after the film to discuss its cultural and social significance when released and today.
